Serious Advances in Snowboard Technology from Lib Tech Snowboards

ARTICLE BY: Steve Gooley

DRAMATICALLY improve your riding!

Lib-tech, a company that has remained true to its snowboarding core, staffed by riders keen on developing the next great boards to hit the mountain slopes, has a multitude of board innovations.

‘Magne-Traction’ has recently been developed. This consists of increasing the snowboards side edge contact points from the standard two to seven, in the form of small wavy bumps along the full lengths of the longest edges. The effect is to dramatically place the boarders control on the edges around the feet, where your balance is, rather than at the nose and tail. Buttering is also made easier due to the nose and tail also catching their edges less. Lib-tech’s Travis Rice, Dark Series, Magne-Traction Series, TRS, Box Scratcher, Snowskates, Cygnus X1 and Mullet all employ this new advancement.

What is called the ‘Golden Fleece’ is another recent finding of a new fiberglass that is said to be 95% tougher than your standard fiberglass. It is made with difficulty from dried magma and glass. Phoenix Series, Dark Series and TRS have entrusted the fleece.

Alongside the usual quality wood composite cores, occasional wood honeycomb technology, worthy environmental practices, cap and sandwich innovations to aid spin, and torsion boxes there are other unique innovations.

Super sized steel edges are place on Lib-tech’s Youth in Asia model, reportedly 34% thicker than usual. Now you’ll be able jib everything, all the time, re-de-tuning your edges to perfection.

The highly sintered base the same board has also been increased in thickness by a 34% with regards to Lib-tech’s ‘Skid Plate’. Grinding away the base, be it on snow, rocks, tarmac or what ever, is now no real problem.

Youth in Asia shows hang up eliminators in evidence whereby the nose and tail undersides are slightly curved, compared with a flat central board underside. This makes the nose and tail less likely to catch an edge on maneuvers such as aerial landings.

The Lib-tech Magne-traction Series are custom detuned to pro rider specifications, double sintered UHMW sidewalls translate into improved toughness, lightness and speed.

In addition to many other advancements the strong and colorful graphics created by numerous artists such as Mike Parilo, Quincy Quigg and Ryan Davis add a real unique and uplifting psychological boost to a fun day out on the white stuff.
